Recommendations for Andean bear movement ecology
Cover for the webinar I was invited by The Brun Bear Foundation. I shared our Foundation's fieldwork experiences with collar-tagging Andean bears and current knowledge with new computational tools. How should we think about study designs before deploying n number of collars? How long and how often should fixes be taken for movement ecology studies on the species?
The background is a composite of Autocorrelated Kernel Density Estimations (AKDE) of the bears' utilization distributions showing upper and lower 95% Confidence Intervals as dashed lines and the estimate as a continuous line. Each GPS fix is represented as a dot and its size corresponds to the uncertainty of the fix estimated with ctmm. The Andean bear vectors were created in Adobe Illustrator. The continuous and dashed lines connecting the bear subpopulation are fictional and were created manually.
